Team eclipses all entries

The marketing department at Wakefield College has picked up an award after running a successful campaign around a solar eclipse.

The team was awarded gold in the communications category at the annual College Marketing Network (CMN) FE First Awards Ceremony, held in Leicester last month.

The honour was handed out for the #wakeyeclipse promotional campaign the team ran to promote science courses at the city college earlier this year.

The campaign involved the design and commissioning of branded eclipse viewing glasses, a short video talking about the science behind the solar eclipse and a social media campaign, which generated extensive engagement with key stakeholders.

Judges said: “This was a stand-out submission in terms of its originality, simplicity and clearly defined ROI. The objectives were clear and tied to the wider college strategic objectives in both communications and student numbers.

“The idea - a campaign promoting sciences courses focussing on the eclipse of the sun earlier this year - was delivered within a low budget and resulted in some excellent internal and external engagement statistics.

“A great result for Wakefield College.”

The innovative campaign helped raise the profile of the college and increased applications to the facility’s A Level science subjects.

The team also won the Times Education Supplement (TES) Marketing Award earlier this year.
