Thug ran over petrol station worker when challenged about his car

Hamza Butt, 20, got behind the wheel of his car and knocked down the victim on the forecourt of the BP garage on Selby Road, Leeds.

Leeds Crown Court heard Butt drove to the petrol station with two passengers on June 4 this year and went to fill up his vehicle.

The attendant went to challenge Butt after he became suspicious over the number plates on the vehicle.

Butt then jumped into the car and drove at the victim.

The court heard he was thrown onto the bonnet of the vehicle before being knocked to the ground, hitting his head.

He suffered cuts to his head and body and chipped teeth.

Butt then sped off through rush hour traffic and went through red lights.

He was arrested after police recognised him from CCTV footage and his finger prints were found on the petrol pump.

Butt, of Wakefield Road, Oulton, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and making off without payment.

The court heard Butt has previous convictions for aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

Andrew Dallas, mitigating, said Butt drove at the victim after being "egged on" by his passengers.

He said: "He realises he could have seriously hurt this gentleman."

Sentencing Butt, judge Tom Bayliss, QC, said: "It is quite clear to me that your driving was deliberate, dangerous and was calculated to injure.

"You have shown precious little remorse for what you have done."

Butt was also ordered to pay the victim £2,000 compensation and was banned from driving for five years.
