Mrs Bradley said: “Hearing the news I had been recognised as a Queen’s Nurse was a brilliant moment for me.

“Anyone who works in community nursing will know what an honour it is and how hard it is to get through the process.

“I’m really pleased for myself, Ian and the Trust that our hard work has been recognised in this way.”

Mr Bennett recently joined Mid Yorkshire, which runs Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals, from Leeds Community Health NHS Trust.

Mr Bennett said: “It was a real honour to be recognised for this award. There is a rigorous process to go through before any nurses can be considered for this title and to get through it is a great achievement for both of us.

“My job now is to lead the team of community nurses in Mid Yorkshire and make sure we provide the best possible care so we all have the chance to receive this honour.”

David Melia, acting chief nurse at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “This is great news for two of our nursing staff and I would like to congratulate them on this honour.

“The trust prides itself on providing the best care we can. this recognition shows we are doing that in our local communities, supporting patients in their own homes or residential homes to lead a fulfilling and independent life.”
