Police name man who died in crash in Wakefield

A man has died almost a month after the car he was travelling in hit a lamp post.

David Thompson, 35, and another man were rushed to Leeds General Infirmary after the incident on the A650 Wrenthorpe bypass in Wakefield.

Mr Thompson was a passenger in the BMW M3 when it veered off the road near a roundabout by the Rhubarb Triangle and hit a lamp post.

Police said the vehicle was the only car involved in the incident on Saturday, April 18.

Mr Thompson, from Tingley, died in hospital on Wednesday, May 13.

The driver, 27, remains in a critical condition.

Several bouquets of flowers were left on the grass verge and tied to a lamp post near to where the crash happened.

One tribute said: “Dave, rest in peace. I’m absolutely devastated.

“Wishing your family all the love and support they will need. You will be missed buddy.”

Another said: “RIP mate. Heartbroken. Love from Rob.”
