Work has been underway to replace several hundred metres of pipe on Denby Dale Road, close to Thornes Park, since September.

One lane has been closed to traffic between the Thornes Lane roundabout and the junction with Monckton Road while the work is carried out, leading to delays and disruption for commuters.

Northern Gas Networks, who are responsible for the work, said: "We are carrying out essential work to replace ageing metal gas mains in the road with more durable plastic pipes.

"This is to ensure that we continue to provide safe and reliable gas supplies to local residents and businesses for years to come."

But the roadworks are expected to come to a finish today (Friday, October 23).
