The car was involved in an incident with a van on the westbound carriageway between junction 34 at Selby and junction 33 at Ferrybridge services.
Firefighters from Pontefract, Castleford and Selby were called to the incident just before 3pm.
A woman who was travelling in the car has been taken to hospital by the Air Ambulance.
The motorway has now reopened.
