Travellers on a playing field in Stanley ‘are creating an eye sore’

Residents say travellers who have set up camp on a playing field in Stanley are creating an “eye sore”.

Seven caravans moved onto the field on Lime Pit Lane on Wednesday, October 21.

And the travellers are still on the site today (Monday, October 26).

Resident Pat Warner, who lives in the area, said more than 10 caravans are now parked on the field.

She said: “I think it’s the same as breaking and entering.

“It’s unfair, children play football on the field and the council have just sorted all the grass out.

“It’s an eyesore, it’s not fair for them to just march on to the field which is for every one to use.”

Glynn Humphries, service director for environment and streetscene at Wakefield Council, said: “We share the frustration of residents and we’d like to reassure people we are taking the necessary action.

“We have to follow a specific process and I can assure residents we will try and resolve this as quickly as we can.”
