Travellers set up camp on playing fields

A group of travellers have set up camp on playing fields.

The group, and horses, have been at Orchard Head fields in Pontefract, for several days.

Wakefield Council said it is taking legal action to move them on.

Glynn Humphries, the council’s Service Director for Environment and Streetscene, said: “We are aware of an unauthorised encampment of travellers on Orchard Head playing fields in Pontefract.

"We have started legal action and a court date is set for tomorrow morning (Friday 13 April), where we will seek an order to remove them.”
