Two men arrested after police seize 200 cannabis plants in Wakefield

Two men have been arrested after police seized 200 cannabis plants from three homes.

Officers from the Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Police Team and Wakefield CID carried out the raids in the city on Wednesday.

They discovered three cannabis farms at two properties on Benjamin Street and one on Bourne Avenue.

Around 200 plants and growing equipment were seized by officers.

Two men, aged 26 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of production of a controlled Class B drug with intent to supply. Both men have been released on bail.

Insp Mark Chamberlain, of Wakefield Central NPT, said: “Police seized a large amount of cannabis plants and growing equipment.

“The plants have now been sent for forensics. We would urge the community to contact us if they have any suspicions of drugs being grown in their area.”
