Two quizzed over town centre brawl

A 37-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm, and a 27-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of affray, both remain in custody following the incident outside Data Cars taxi office, Cornmarket, at around 4.20am on Monday.

A 24-year-old man is still in hospital with a serious head injury after hitting his head on the pavement.

Det Insp Viv Segerius-Allick, of Wakefield CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into what has been a serious incident in Pontefract in the early hours of yesterday morning and we are appealing for witnesses to the disturbance which took place outside a taxi office.

“The injured man continues to be treated for a serious head injury at Leeds General Infirmary, and two arrested men remain in custody.

“Anyone who witnessed the fight or who has any information should contact Wakefield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
