UPDATE: Travellers moved on from Heath Common

A group of travellers who set up camp on Heath Common have been moved on.

They set up the camp on Sunday and told police they would only be staying a few days as they were travelling back from Appleby.

Officers from the Normanton and Featherstone neighbourhood police team served them with a Section 61 notice and they were given until 4pm on Monday to leave.

Wakefield Council confirmed the travellers were moved on yesterday (Monday).

Wakefield Council’s Service Director for Environment and Streetscene Glynn Humphries said: “A group of travellers moved onto the Heath Common late on Sunday afternoon. After a visit from a liaison officer, we worked with the police to serve them with a notice and vacated them from the area.”
