The scheme benefited eight Wakefield charities. Snapethorpe Hall Care Home, Wakefield Hospice and St Catherine’s Church Centre were among those to be given a £100 donation after being nominated at the Ossett branch of Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) on Bank Street.

Outwood Stroke Club, the Motor Neuron Disease Association and the Alzheimer’s Society were nominated for £100 each at the Wakefield branch on Kirkgate.

Dementia UK and Guide Dogs For The Blind Association were also nominated for £100 donations at the Barnsley Building Society in Wakefield, which is part of the Yorkshire.

The Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the annual interest on their accounts to help charities and good causes.

Chris Couch, manager of the Ossett YBS branch, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came into the branch to nominate a charity for a donation during the campaign. At Yorkshire Building Society we are committed to our community and I hope these donations will enable the charities to carry on their wonderful work here in Ossett and Wakefield.”
