Wakefield theatre students launch programme of events

Theatre students launched a programme of events for the Wakefield Annual Charity Christmas Lunch (WACCL) group on Wednesday.

The young people, from the Performance Academy at the Theatre Royal Wakefield, entertained guests with scenes from musicals, including songs from the Wakefield Youth Music Theatre forthcoming production of Oliver!

WACCL decided to organise a year-long fundraising campaign after the success of last year’s Christmas lunch, which raised £13,500.

Ian Taylor, chairman of WACCL, said: “We had amazing event in 2013, with the launch of the Wakefield Annual Charity Christmas lunch, in support of the Theatre Youth Academy. This year will be supporting both the theatre and the community foundation - we have an ambitious goal to raise over £20,000.

“This money will go back in to projects supporting our young talented people across the Wakefield District”

The group will now host a summer family fun day on Sunday, September 14, at the National Coalmining Museum and is planning a series of business events during the next few months.

The Christmas event is planned for December 11 at Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield. The money raised will be split between the Community Foundation for Wakefield and the Theatre Royal Wakefield for its programme of work with young people.
