War medals stolen in burglary

Police are appealing for information about war medals that were stolen from a home in Wakefield.

One of the medals, which was awarded for serving in the Middle East in 1956-1958, and the other, a coal miners rescue medal, were taken during a burglary at a house on Hollingthorpe Road, Hall Green on January 12, between 11:45am-8pm.

The general service medal had the service number 33004168 engraved on the side.

Detective Constable Amy Cooper, at Wakefield CID, said: “This incident occurred on Tuesday, January 12, when the suspects forced their way into the property and stole items including these service medals.

“These medals hold great sentimental value to the victim and we want to trace those involved in this burglary so we can reunite the medals with the man who earned them.”

Anyone who has any information about the stolen items are asked to contact Wakefield CID via 101 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
