Snow in Wakefield: Here is the exact time snow is set to hit Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford
Snow is set to hit Wakefield later this afternoon (January 8), with a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office.
Storm Goretti will bring heavy snow, strong winds and rain to the district this evening, with the snow weather warning in place from 5pm today until midday tomorrow (January 9).
Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, with the Met Office warning residents to expect a “cold and windy night with rain and snow affecting much of the region”.
The deep area of low pressure will bring a ‘multi-hazard’ event into Friday with delays to public transport predicted.
Numerous power cuts and road closures are also expected.
Into the weekend and the weather will turn drier, however further snow could be on the horizon.
The outlook for Saturday, January 10 to Monday, January 12 reads: “Turning drier Saturday with some brightness. Frosty with icy stretches overnight. Sunday probably dry, bright and cold. Chance of outbreaks of rain and snow for Monday, but low confidence currently.”
