Storm Goretti: Heavy snow expected with further yellow weather warning issued for Wakefield
Another yellow weather warning for snow has been issued across Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford.
The district’s cold weather will continue with a deep area of low pressure bringing further snow, strong winds and heavy rain, which led to further warnings being issued.

The latest yellow weather warning for snow was issued earlier this afternoon and is in place from 5pm tomorrow (January 8) until 12pm on Friday (January 9).
Named Storm Goretti by Météo-France, the Met Office has warned that the storm is likely to bring “heavy snow leading to disruption and difficult travelling conditions later Thursday and into Friday”.
Possible travel delays are to be expected on roads, with the Met Office also warning of delays and cancellations to rail and air travel.
Furthermore, power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.
Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, Neil Armstrong, said: “Storm Goretti will be a multi-hazard event, with the most significant impacts from snow in parts of Wales and the Midlands, though rain and strong winds also have the potential to bring disruption to many.”
UKHSA Amber cold weather health alerts are also in place across Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford until January 11.
