In a video posted on Twitter by Highways England, cars are seen driving through standing water following a short period of heavy rain.

It comes during a Bank Holiday weekend when people are looking to get back outdoors following the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions in April.

But the changeable weather could lead to people getting caught out and the agency, which manages major roads in England, has issued a warning to drivers.

Posting on Twitter, Highways England said: "We are currently experiencing outbreaks of very heavy rain across the region, resulting in some flash flooding. This was the scene earlier at J31-30 #M62. Flooding has now subsided. Please drive to the conditions."

The Met Office forecast for the rest of the weekend says heavy rain showers will continue, interspersed with sunny spells.
