The 36-year-old woman was working at Wrangbrook WMC on Harewood Lane on Wednesday November 27 when the robber walked in through the main door of the club and confronted with her, with a knife he picked up inside the building.

He then demanded she opened the safe and made off with a large quantity of cash, leaving her tied with rope around her hands and feet.

The suspect was described as a white male about 5ft 5ins to 5ft 7ins wearing blue trousers, a dark jacket and a grey hood, and said to be ‘chunky’, although it is possible he was wearing clothing under his outerwear making him appear bigger in build than he was.

Det Insp Paul Harrison, of Wakefield CID, said: “This was a particularly upsetting experience for the victim who fortunately only received minor injuries but was clearly left shocked.

“We are currently following a number of lines of inquiry into the robbery and local neighbourhood policing team officers have been conducting reassurance patrols and speaking with nearby residents.

“Anyone who saw a man entering or leaving the club in suspicious circumstances shortly before or after the robbery took place or who has information about the robbery should contact Wakefield CID on 101.

“Information can also be given anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.”
