Youngsters celebrate ‘good’ Ofsted

The school was rated as ‘good’ in all areas assessed including achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

It has improved after being deemed to ‘require improvement’ in June 2013.

Tracey Lake, headteacher, said: “This Ofsted inspection reflects the hard work put in by the staff, the children, the parents and the governors.

“Teachers have worked hard to ensure that the curriculum we offer is exciting, inspiring and engaging for all children in the school.”

The report praised the progress of pupils at the school and the quality of teaching given.

It said: “The headteacher, supported by the deputy headteacher, provides good leadership. The school has improved significantly since its previous inspection because the headteacher has taken decisive action to improve the quality of teaching and raise pupils’ achievement.”

Inspectors also praised the attitudes of youngsters towards learning and said they were well behaved and enjoy school.

Mrs Lake said: “Inspectors said the children’s attitude to learning was excellent and it is the children’s hard work that have got us this Ofsted rating.”

Inspectors, who visited the school in April, also said children understood their responsibilities and what was expected of them.

The report said: “Teaching is effective and this results in pupils making good progress in their reading, writing and mathematics. Staff make sure that pupils understand their work by asking probing questions and providing good support.

“They plan activities to hold pupils’ interest and enthusiasm.”

Inspectors said the school was not yet ‘outstanding’ because, occasionally, teachers’ expectations are not high enough and work set does not always challenge pupils sufficiently.

The report also said sometimes youngsters were not given enough time to responds to comments on their work to be able to improve.
