Bradford League: Altofts duo in record stand while Wakefield St Michael's rise to run chase challenge

A second wicket stand of 139 between Lulit Mangalarapu and Shamsullah Dost helped Wakefield St Michael’s to overhaul a challenging target set by Great Preston in their Gordon Rigg Bradford Division Three contest.

After being set 239 for victory the Wakefield side set about their run chase well and got home with more than six overs to spare.

Mangalarapu (93), who hit 12 fours and two sixes, and Dost (56) led the way before James Chapple (27no) and Kashif Najam (19no) brought St Michael’s home for a three-wicket success after Luke Kane (4-59) had posed a threat.

James Conlon had made 122 for Great Preston out of their 238 with Syed Bukhari taking 4-59 to do most to restrict them.

Altofts recovered from 11-4 to post the season’s highest score of 401 as they beat Division Three leaders Spen Victoria by 197 runs.

Their total included a league record sixth wicket stand of 277 between Jacques Porter and Saif Tahir.

Porter was in incredible form as he smashed six sixes and 21 fours on his way to 181 made from 129 balls, while Tahir hammered 11 sixes and 10 fours while racing to 139 off 95 balls.

Spen were all out for 204 with Elliot Carter taking 5-37 and two wickets each for Porter and Luke Whitmore.

Pace bowler Junaid Khan (4-44) and Archie Houghton (3-46) helped Ossett to their second successive win as they beat Bankfoot by four wickets in the Premier Division.

Bankfoot, despite 50 from Hamza Iqbal, were bowled out for 142 before Ossett reached their target for the loss of six wickets by the 42nd over with Sajith Warnakulasuriya contributing 31no, William Wade 26, Rohan Mehmi 23 and James Keen 23no.

East Ardsley went down by 110 runs in a local derby against new Division leaders Morley.

Despite 5-46 from Josh Wild and 3-57 for Oliver Appleyard Morley were able to post a 294-9 score with Ardsley making 184-7 in reply, Ashley Pearson (37no) and Suraj Singh (34) were their top scorers.

Carlton ran into Australian Fergus McKenna who hit 174 for Gomersal as they piled up 336-8 on their way to a 78-run win.

Carlton made a spirited 258-8 in reply with Steve Cooper hitting 86no, Dan White 67 and Wasim Khaliq 37.

Sandal remain at the bottom after a 75-run defeat at Birstall.

They struggled to contain the home side as they posted a 300-5 score and were then all out for 225 with Matthew Westwood making 64, Kasun Madushanka 31, Sam Noden 25 and Michael Carroll 25.

After a win and a tie in their previous two games Wrenthorpe were unable to keep their improved run going in Division Two as they lost by 63 runs to Bowling Old Lane.

Although Ben Brown took 4-54 and Mustafa Bhatti 3-43 Bowling were able to make 215 then Wrenthorpe were all out for 152 with Bhatti (41) top scoring, Asad Hamid hitting 26 and Ubaid Zia 24.
