New signing Sanoj Darshika hits half century as Townville beat neighbours Methley

Early days perhaps, but signs are looking good for Townville this season in the Premier Division of the Bradford League.

Townville sit on top of the Premier after the first two matches and following a 54-run success against local rivals Methley who had also won their first league game.

Overseas player Sanoj Darshika followed up his knock of 29 on his debut the previous week with his first half century for the club as he led the scoring with 60, hitting six fours in his 73-ball innings.

Support came from Abdul Wahid (47) and skipper Jonny Booth (23) initially before Townville were able to post a 266 total with Chris Grey contributing 32 and a handy last wicket stand coming between Tom Chippendale (27) and Liam Booth (21no) who added 51 valuable runs.

The pick of the Methley bowlers was Charlie McMurran. Amazingly last season he did not take a single wicket away from home, but here he claimed 6-67 from 13 overs after coming on the fifth member of the attack.

Methley started their reply well with openers Kyle Welsh (58) and Taylor Cornall (48) sharing a stand of 98. Skipper Jared Warner then made 44 before his side’s innings fell away.

With Jack Hughes taking 5-63 and Conor Harvey 3-52 they lost their last eight wickets for 68 to be all out for 212.

Early Division Two leaders are Great Preston after they produced a dominant performance to romp to a nine-wicket win over Windhill & Daisy Hill.

Opener Moosa Azad led the way with an unbeaten 100 from 71 balls which featured three sixes and 14 fours.

He was supported by Cody Mac Vay (54no from 75 deliveries) as Windhill & Daisy Hill’s 168 score was chased down in quick time, just 25 overs.

Windhill’s total had been built around Khalid Mehmood (42) and Asad Khan (27) as Imran Patel (4-47), James Conlon (4-31) led the Great Preston bowling.

After also opening with a victory in the first week newly promoted Streethouse made it two wins when they eased to a seven-wicket success against Gomersal.

A fine effort in the field paved the way for victory as Gomersal were dismissed for 126.

Despite 32 from Adam Holroyd and 29 by Seth Gorman they generally struggled against an impressive attack led by Michael Bates, who took 3-2 from seven overs.

Ben Brown, Ismail Patel and Scott Bland took two wickets each.

Streethouse took just 27.2 overs to race to their target with Dishane Rodrigo hitting 11 fours in an unbeaten 58 and Matthew Gibson’s 44 including 10 boundaries.
