Zia and Hamid hammer centuries as Wakefield St Michael’s hit biggest score of season
Wakefield St Michael’s compiled the highest score of the season and the biggest winning margin as they thrashed Brighouse in Division Three of the Bradford Cricket League.
Struggling Brighouse were hammered by an incredible 431 runs as the Wakefield team cashed in on choosing to bat first.
They amassed an enormous 475-4 from 50 overs as Ubaid Zia led the way, smashing an extraordinary 183 from only 83 balls, including 25 fours and nine sixes.
Mohammad Hamid was not far behind as he compiled a magnificent 154 from 141 balls and hit 20 fours plus four sixes.

They combined for an opening stand of 271, which laid the platform for the mammoth total, with Umaad Bashir adding an unbeaten 42 from only 18 deliveries and Rana Khan hitting 26.
Faced with such a daunting task it was no surprise that Brighouse never looked likely to get close in their reply. It did not help that they lost both of their openers without score and they were eventually all out for just 44 with Craig Ellison taking 3-4 and Syed Shah Bukhari 3-8.
Elsewhere in Division Three, Wrenthorpe’s Australian all-rounder Patrick Forrest impressed again as they defeated Liversedge by 46 runs.
Forrest led from the front with 79 before Harvey Anderson (57) and Janu Wewalwala (72) help lift Wrenthorpe to 314-6. Alfie Holden also contributed 33 and Sam Anderson 33no.
Liversedge responded bravely, but were all out for 257 as Forrest capped a superb all-round performance by claiming 6-48.
In-form Mark Robertshaw made it 503 runs from last four innings as his 151no proved the difference between the teams with Pudsey St Lawrence beating Carlton in the Premier Division.
Robertshaw’s century helped St Lawrence post a 340-4 total and Carlton were all out for 187 in reply with Naveed Malik (41) top scoring as they dropped into the bottom two.
Second-placed Sandal lost ground in the Division One title race as they went down by five wickets to Baildon.
A disappointing batting display saw them all out for 123 as Denson Narayan (30) top scored.
Ossett became the first team to lose to bottom side East Bierley as they went down by 121 runs.
They were all out for 133 in reply to 254-9 with skipper James Keen (58no) the only player to offer much resistance.
Despite a battling 77 from Dean Van Onselen, Altofts lost by eight wickets to Northowram Fields in Division Two.
Craig Wood also chipped in with 36, but Altofts’ 214 was easily chased down.
Streethouse lost out in a close contest with previously winless Gomersal.
It could have gone either way, but Gomersal held their nerve to win by two wickets.
Streethouse elected to bat first and were bowled out for 190 despite Dishane Rodrigo contributing 41, Jason Holmes making 35 and Stuart Ruddick 32.
Michael Bates then threatened to win the game for Streethouse with 4-45, but useful contributions throughout the order, led by Brandon Silverwood's 37 and Joe Shuttleworth's 30, saw Gomersal edge home with an over to spare.
