Football: Struggling Ossett Town sack manager Nicholas

Evo-Stik First Division North strugglers Ossett Town have sacked manager Graham Nicholas.

Nicholas left Northern Counties Premier side Garforth Town to take the manager’s role at the 4G Voice and Data Stadium at the end of October.

In his first game, Nicholas inspired Town to a 2-0 win over Goole AFC in the Integro Doodson League Cup and then saw his new team draw 1-1 with Brighouse Town in the Evo-Stik First Division North four days later.

However, since then Town have lost all eight of their league outings, putting them third bottom of the league, and last month’s 1-0 win over Spennymoor Town, again in the league cup, has been scant consolation for Reds’ fans.

A statement released by Town said: “Town have parted company with manager Graham Nicholas after a poor run of results following his appointment.

“John Francis, reserves and U19s manager, will take responsibility for the forthcoming home games on Saturday versus Radcliffe Borough and next Tuesday versus Darlington in the league cup.”

On Town’s official website, chairman James Rogers said: “It’s very unfortunate that things haven’t worked out under Graham’s leadership. I’d like to thank Graham for all his efforts and wish him the very best for the future.”

Town are inviting applications from those interested in the manager’s position. Call James Rogers on 07837 804899.
