Brian McDermott has picked a mixed squad of senior players and young professionals for the final game before the season proper begins at home to Brighton on Saturday.
The manager said after Saturday’s friendly meeting with Nurnberg that he had all made his mind up about his team selection for the opening game, but a number of players involved tonight will be in the squad.
Midfielder Rodolph Austin has travelled to Ireland after being left out of the Nurnberg game, but he is banned for the opening Championship match.
The team against Shelbourne will include young Dewsbury-born prospect Chris Dawson, who will be looking to catch the eye after completing his first 90 minutes since injury when the under-21s beat Shelley last week.
The United squad is Cairns, Thompson, Killock, Taylor, Drury, Austin, Hunt, Dawson, Norris, Smith, Hall, Grimes, Cook, Mowatt, Walters, Parkin, Coyle.
