SYD Ringside Boxing success.

Kurt Jackson, from Pontefract, on paper had his toughest test to date in 35 fights with the 15-year-old facing national champion Harry Fryer, from Leeds, in a contest in Bradford.

Fryer has had 39 fights and won 33 of them, winning titles and representing his county and country.

As the bell rang for round one Kurt looked a lot bigger, though, and boxed well, making Fryer look average and winning the opener with ease.

Jackson then dominated the second and third rounds with speed and accuracy, looking good in a great boxing performance to win decisively on points and claim a massive scalp.

Coach Pedro Carragher reckons Kurt is a hot prospect and was delighted with his display against Fryer.

He said: “I’ve been involved in amateur and professional boxing all my life and Kurt is the best boxer I have ever trained.

“He has got the ability to be one of the country’s finest boxers. Kurt is 15 years old and beat one of the best fighters in the country. I promise this guys he’s the best talent I’ve seen for years.”

There was more success for the SYD club in the Isle of man on Saturday when 11-year-old Lyncham Smith represented Yorkshire for the first time and gained a great win against a more experienced opponent.

Lyncham boxed well and won with ease as he proved just too sharp and accurate for his Manx opponent who was on home ground. This was a massive opportunity for Lyncham, representing his county at just 11-year-old and he took it in great style, taking team Ringside from strength to strength.

Tonight (Friday) Knottingley’s Danny Smith boxes in Hunslet in his first contest after having two skills bouts.

Danny, 11, is another good capable boxer and will be aiming to keep the Ringside winning run going.

SYD Ringside boxing club trains at Kellingley Club, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6.30-8pm with under 11s Tuesdays 6-7pm.

SYD Ringside, who have a great set of boxers looking good and travelling the country, are looking for sponsorships for team strips and tracksuits.
