Jockey Hart at the double on Pontefract’s Yorkshire Children’s Charity Raceday
Pontefract Racecourse staged its first Yorkshire Children’s Charity Raceday with action on the track and funds raised for a good cause.
The brand new raceday to the course’s 2026 season calendar celebrated and raised awareness as well as funds for the Yorkshire Children’s Charity, supporting the vital work that the charity provides to children within the county.
A six-race card started with a surprise in the Gieves And Hawkes Supports The YCC Maiden Stakes as odds-on favourite According To Mark was turned over by Alma Latina.
The Ralph Beckett-trained three-year-old, ridden by Hector Crouch, was kept in touch with the leader, hit the front inside the final two furlongs out and went clear to win by three-and-a-half lengths, outpacing the favourite.

Jockey Jason Hart went on to ride a double on the day as he swept home in the final two races on the card.
His first winner came in the mile-and-a-quarter KRS Property Solutions Supports The YCC Handicap when on board the cleverly named Bay Dream Believer who won a tight finish by a neck ahead of Pol Roger, under Connor Beasley.
The seven-year-old had taken a keen hold early on, but stayed in touch with the horses up front and kept on well in the closing stages to edge home.
Hart was in the winners’ circle again half-an-hour later when his 5/1 mount Dolos Dream made all and stayed on well to win the five furlong Morley Glass And Glazing Supports The YCC Handicap sprint.

It was another tight finish with the winner edging out Queen Sana, under Danny Tudhope, by just threequarters-of-a-length.
Earlier Hart finished third on outsider Kochella in the six furlong HBC Construction Ltd Supports The YCC EBF Maiden Stakes, but it was an incredibly close run thing.
In a thrilling finish debutant Boleto, ridden by Callum Rodriguez, only nudged ahead in the closing stages and ended just a neck ahead of Beasley’s mount, Shemiyla Star, with Kochella only a neck further back in third.
The six furlong sprint for the GV Co Property Consultants Supports The YCC Handicap was expected to be competitive and prove that with 3/1 favourite Alpha Capture being touched off by Richard Fahey’s Rock Opera.

The Oisin Orr mount was initially held up near the rear before making headway in the final furlong to win going away by one-and-a-quarter lengths.
Consistent veteran Aberama Gold ran his usual decent race and led two furlongs out only to be outpaced in the closing stages as he finished third.
Ruby Red Gove sprang a surprise in the Lycetts Supports The YCC Fillies' Handicap when making all to win under a good ride from David Nolan.
The 18/1 shot, trained by Ivan Furtado, finished two lengths ahead of the outsider of the eight runners, Saucy Jane.
The racing action continues at Pontefract with the Racing For Everyone evening event on Monday (June 8). Gates open at 4.30pm with the first race at 6.30pm.
