Pontefract’s Elliott Fewster makes history with BTRDA Rallycross Junior Championship triumph

Pontefract’s odds defying racing car driver Elliott Fewster is stepping up into senior ranks this year after a brilliant 2025 saw him crowned a national junior champion.

Elliott won the BTRDA Rallycross Junior Championship when victorious in five out of the six finals in the national competition that involved the best young car drivers in the country.

In the other meeting, at Blyton Park, he finished his heat 11 seconds in front of the second-placed driver only to then have a mishap in the final.

In aiming to be the fastest he could be Elliott rolled his Suzuki Swift car and wrote it off. This was in round one of the championship so it was some feat to recover points and confidence – and to go on to dominate the rest of the competition through the year.

It was also no ordinary feat as 17-year-old Elliott became the first dyspraxic driver to win the championship.

His condition affects physical co-ordination, but his love of cars and racing has seen him overcome those difficulties in incredible fashion.

Elliott is now excited to be moving up to the seniors in 2026 where he faces his next challenge.

He was selected by Motorsport UK to be part of their talent academy in 2025 and hopes to be chosen again this year as it has nurtured the very best of UK motorsport talent into the senior levels of the sport, including current Formula One star George Russell, Elfyn Evans, Jess Hawkins and Jake Dennis.

The BTRDA Rallycross Junior Championship was clinched in the final race at Knockhill after previous triumphs at Lydden Hill, Pembrey, Blyton Park and multiple pole positions throughout the year’s racing.

"What a year!” said Elliott.

"After the roll in round one I thought my chances of winning the Championship were lost, but I fought back hard and won every other round and finally Knockhill to take the title.

"I am so proud and have made some amazing friends in the process.

“I have been told so many times that I am not good enough. In a car we are all equal, it’s your determination that makes you stand out from the crowd.”

Elliott is grateful to the help he has received from his sponsors Nigel and Peter Thompson, from Thompson and Son Hearing Care, based in Walton.

They were inspired to get in touch with the then aspiring Pontefract racing driver when he was first featured in the Express explaining how kart and car racing changed his life after he was diagnosed with dyspraxia and are proud to see how far he has come on the journey.

Elliott took his new car earlier to their hearing clinic in Walton so customers could meet him and sit in the vehicle.
