Castleford Tigers boss pleased with players' efforts but unhappy with officials in Leigh game

Castleford Tigers boss Ryan Carr believes his side should have come away with a victory at Leigh Leopards.

After seeing his injury-hit side show a big reaction to their Magic Weekend no show Carr insisted it was tough they had nothing to show for their efforts at Leigh Sports Village.

The Tigers went down 24-18, but had two tries controversially ruled out by video referee Aaron Moore and had to play 10 minutes at a crucial time near the end with a man down after Louis Senior was even more controversially sin-binned.

Senior was yellow carded for a high contact on David Armstrong, who was clearly falling before any contact was made, and proof of how harsh the way it was dealt with has come with the RFL disciplinary taking no action.

“We deserved to win that, period,” said head coach Carr.

“We went down to 12 men for a guy who tripped into a guy. I don’t know where Louis Senior is meant to go. What’s he meant to do? Come on.

"He’s six foot six and he’s dipping his knees down as low as he possibly could. I don’t understand that at all so I need to get some clarification on it.

"But clarification after the game? – the two points have gone unfortunately.”

And on the second of two Jason Qareqare tries questionably disallowed for an obstruction in the build-up Carr simply added: “It’s a try.”

On his team’s performance against opponents coming into the game in good form and looking to enhance their play-off credentials, Carr commented: “We got our effort and energy right, which really pleased me.

"We competed really hard and we went six weeks on the bounce being really good like that then we let ourselves down last week. The response was what I really wanted to see.

"That’s how we should represent the club. That’s what they deserve, it’s what our fans deserve, it’s what the owners deserve, everybody at our club and our town.

"That’s got to be the same every week now, though, that’s the key for us, the learning from this year. We haven’t nailed our consistency down so that’s what I’m really chasing.

"We’ve played some really good footy this year, but we’ve also had some days when we’ve been way off the mark. So it’s just trying to bridge the gap. You’re not always going to be perfect, but your effort and energy can’t dip.”
