Coach Chester gives players all the credit for nine-try romp over Robins

Three days after ending a 10-game losing run with an 18-14 defeat of Huddersfield Giants, Trinity cut loose to score nine tries in a victory which lifted them off the foot of Betfred Super League.

Chester said: “I am really pleased for the players; they have put in a big effort over the last 12-14 weeks.

“Things haven’t gone the way we would have hoped, but the good thing about this group is the togetherness.

“It was evident today and it was nice to put in another good performance on a short turnaround. I thought we were really good, we certainly got off to a good start.

“We probably came out a little bit sloppy in the second half and gifted them some field position through some ill-discipline with the ball, but it was a really solid performance and something to work with. You can see the guys are growing in confidence.”

Reece Lyne scored a brace of tries and provided the final pass for two of his winger Ben Jones-Bishop’s hat-trick, in Trinity’s first game on their own turf in eight months.

“I thought he led us exceptionally well,” Chester said of the centre. “He was fantastic with the ball, a real handful.

“Without Jacob Miller, his leadership was first class.”

Ryan Hampshire scored 16 of Trinity’s points from a try and six conversions. The touchdown was a gift from Kelepi Tanginoa who handed Hampshire the ball over Rovers’ line and Chester explained: “That was all to do with Rocky [Hampshire] not scoring a try this year.

“Kelepi was well aware of that fact and Kelepi had scored a few. It was very unselfish, but that sums Kelepi Tanginoa up, he does a lot of unselfish things.”

Chester said Tony Gigot (elbow) and Matty Ashurst (ankle) are set to miss Thursday’s derby against Leeds Rhinos at St Helens, but Joe Westerman, who was rested yesterday, will return and Miller is likely to be available after injury.
