NRL could provide recruitment options for Wakefield Trinity

The Australian campaign starts two weeks before Super League on March 11 and Trinity head coach Chris Chester sees the possibility of bringing in more fresh faces after the season kicks off down under.

He feels that if NRL players are struggling to establish their place in the matchday 17, then they might look to Super League in a bid for more game time.

Trinity have signed Eddie Battye and Mason Lino during the off-season and Chester is happy to be patient when it comes to further recruitment.

“There is no rush,” he insisted.

“The NRL start before us, which is a first, and I am pretty sure after the first two or three weeks we might be getting some phone-calls from agents overseas to let us know players aren’t getting in the team and offering us a player.

“It is just the patient approach we have had to all of our recruitment really.

“We will just sit and wait. We know we are in a strong position if something becomes available. We will just see what happens.”

The first and second round draw for the Challenge Cup will take place tonight, with Wakefield set to enter the competition in round three.
