Trin came out on top thanks to a trio of tries from Jazz Tevaga, Jayden Myers and Oliver Pratt putting them in command at 18-4 but the Leopards scored two late tries to make it a respectable scoreline by the full-time hooter.
But Powell, after watching his side record a third successive win in all competitions, insists his team need to be better going forwards.
He said: “It was an average performance. We were so negative at the start and our discipline was poor, so I am pleased with the two points - that’s what is important.
“We didn’t back up what we did last week. We can play better than that and we need to learn some lessons. We made it harder work than it needed to be but we won the game. Two points is two points.”
He added: “I thought we played with our eyes closed in first half and we were still building into the game after 30 minutes. At half time I said we needed to be more positive, as we had taken a step back.
“We didn't play with confidence. I want us to go out there and play with confidence. Leigh opened the game on us and dominated territory pretty much for the entire game, but we got the two points.
“We move on and we will get better.”
