After 10 successive defeats, Trinity will go into tomorrow’s rematch with Leeds Rhinos on the back of a hat-trick of wins in eight days.

Wood played in all three, against Huddersfield Giants, Hull KR and the 30-6 defeat of Rhinos two days ago and reckons breaking their losing sequence changed the whole picture.

“Once we got that win, it built up the confidence,” he said. “We were just lacking in confidence and as we lost more and more, I think we lost that confidence, but when we got a win it brought it back and we have enjoyed these last couple of games.

“When we got that first win it was like a big cloud had been lifted off us and we’ve played on a smile ever since.”

Leeds will be keen to avenge Thursday’s loss, but Wood stressed Trinity are looking to finish the year on a high, to give themselves momentum going into pre-season.

“We’ve just got to build on this now going into next year,” he stressed.

“We have to keep training how we are training and keep the smile on our faces and hopefully that will go into next year.

“In the dark times, when we were losing and trying to build our way out of it, we focused on the little areas, the one percenters that will get you the wins.

“We were really honest with each other and we weren’t doing some of those things earlier on in the year.

“That’s what we have been focusing on in these last few weeks and it has given us an emphasis on what we need to do for next year.”

Wood has made an impact off the bench in all three wins.

Of his own form, he said: “I am just trying to be as consistent as I can and do what’s best for the team. I think the way the forwards have been going these past few games, it really helps my kind of game.

“We are winning the battles in the middle and getting quick play-the-balls for me and that helps my game as I can get out from dummy-half and create something from there. That has been massive for me.”
