Wakefield Trinity: Coach Chester mulls over '˜big' recruitment decisions

He has also refused to rule out strengthening his squad for the remaining three games of the regular campaign and the eights.

Trinity have been linked with players including Catalans Dragons half-back Josh Drinkwater, Warrington Wolves back-rower George King and Salford Red Devils front-rower Craig Kopczak, but have yet to announce any signings for 2019.

Wakefield, who visit Leeds Rhinos on Friday, are sixth in Betfred Super League, three points above the bottom-four, following a 35-18 home loss to Drinkwater-inspired Catalans three days ago.

“Our recruitment is pretty much done,” Chester confirmed. “We know where we need to strengthen.

“We have signed somebody, a forward. We are looking for a half-back and are quite far down the line with a half-back.

“We know where we need to strengthen and it’s about adding that bit of quality.

“We need a bit more quality if we are going to have a crack next year.”

Clubs have until Friday, July 27, to sign players for the rest of this season.

“We’re not saying we won’t be bringing anybody in over the next few weeks,” added Chester. “There is scope to bring some players in, but I don’t want it to be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.

“I need to look at last week’s game first before I make some big decisions.”

Trinity are three points clear of Rhinos who are ninth in the table.

They remain in danger of being dragged into the middle-eights Qualifiers and Chester warned: “It’s important we get some form and chalk up a couple of victories, but if we perform like [they did against Catalans] this week we are in bother.

“They are all big games. We have an extra day’s prep’ over Leeds, but they are all tough, hard games.

“We got beaten by a lot more physical side in Catalans and it is important we get back on the horse this week.”
