Wakefield Trinity's Chris Chester "over the moon" at Tony Gigot signing

The talented France international has been without a permanent club since leaving Catalans Dragons at the end of last season and spent a four week spell earlier this year on trial with Toronto Wolfpack.

With his ability to play full-back, centre or stand-off, Gigot boasts plenty of versatility and his skill-level has never been in doubt.

He was man-of-the-match when Catalans won the Challenge Cup final at Wembley in 2018 and - after seeing his career look like hitting the rocks - is relieved to have now secured a deal at Belle Vue.

Gigot, 29, said: “I’m really happy to be here.

“I received a call from my manager and he said Wakefield would like to speak to me, so I spoke with Chris (Chester) and Michael (Carter) and it’s a great club to come to.

“(With the lockdown) it’s been a long break for me and I’m just happy to get a chance to be back on the field and helping Wakefield Trinity.”

Head coach Chester - who has also seen winger Lee Kershaw re-sign until the end of 2021 - is delighted to secure an individual of such talent.

“To be honest, I’m over the moon because he’s a player that I have admired over the last few years," he said.

“I tried to sign him when I was at Hull KR and when we found out he was going to be available again we jumped at the chance.

“I can’t thank the club enough for making the deal happen.”

Wakefield announced last week they have also signed winger Liam Kay from Toronto ahead of the Super League season resuming on August 2.
