Wakefield Triathlon Club podium masters

It was by far the biggest number of club wins of the day.

Age group winners included: TriStars Start (3rd Male) Matthew Homan age 7, TriStars 1 (2nd Female) Ruby Pool age 8, TriStars 1 (1st Male) Gabe Shepherd age 10, Tristars 2 (1st Female) Imogen Wolff age 12, (3rd Female) Alice Feetham age 11, Youth (3rd Male) Ben Hobbs age 16 and a hat trick of 3 Youth Girls (1st Female) Abigail Baddeley age 14, (2nd Female) Amelia Garbutt age 14 and (3rd Female) Lavinia Gavaghan age 14, pictured here!

Amanda Rhodes, chair of Wakefield Junior Triathlon Club was delighted with the results.

She said: “It’s a fantastic start to the season for our Wakefield juniors today.

“Not only did we get several podium places, but we saw our juniors giving their all to do themselves proud.

“It was great to see the kids cheering on their fellow team-mates all the way to the finish. Team work all the way, best club, well done to everybody.”

Greg Parkin, lead cycling coach, was incredibly proud of the young triathletes.

“The most important aspect for your coaches is that the time given up has proven to be worthwhile,” he said.

“The number of athletes racing is more important than the results. It proves we have got something right. The results prove that the coaching is second to none.”

Wakefield Junior Triathlon Club is based at Thornes Park Athletics Stadium.

It is run under the guidance of British Triathlon and British Cycling.

Regular club training sessions aim to improve skills and techniques in swimming, cycling and running and to improve fitness in all three disciplines. The club’s aim is to prepare their juniors for triathlons as well as cycling and running races. Membership is open to children aged six to 16.

If you’d like to take part in the club’s next event – the forthcoming Wakefield Junior Duathlon on Sunday, May 13 – is now open for entries.

It will take place within Thornes Park College Campus. It is a friendly off-road run-bike-run event for all abilities aged between eight and 19 (age at December 31, 2018).
