The annual free festival took place across the city centre from Friday (November 21) to Sunday (November 23).
Across all three days, thousands of visitors enjoyed the Light Trail, that featured fun, unique and interactive elements allowing them to take direct part in the installations.
This included Maxime Touroute’s interactive installation ‘Let’s Draw’ – where participants could create designs for an ever-changing digital mural.
Friday saw football legend, and Wakefield icon, Chris Kamara switch on the city centre’s Christmas lights, from a stage outside Wakefield Cathedral, and an illuminating Lantern Parade that travelled from Brook Street to Coronation Gardens.
Coun Hannah Appleyard, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “Light Up Wakefield has once again been a huge success, with tens of thousands of people enjoying the festival over the weekend.
"And over 9,500 people also visited the Event Hub at WX (Wakefield Exchange).
“There was so much happening, starting with the Christmas Light Switch On, Lantern Parade and of course the Light Trail, with more installations than ever before.
“It truly was a magical weekend, and there’s still plenty to come, with light up events in Castleford, Pontefract and Ossett later this week”.
Cultural venues across Wakefield also hosted fantastic fringe activity alongside the main festival – which will continue throughout the month and into December.
This includes free glow-in-the-dark creative activities at The Art House and live music at Wakefield Exchange.
Coun Hannah Appleyard continued: "There’s also a packed programme of events taking place in WX throughout December.
"Including Wakefield’s own Skinny Living playing their biggest hometown show to date, an artisan festive market and an over 60s festive disco. So come along and get your festive season started.”
Light Up 2025 will continue this week.
