The summer holidays are upon us once more, leaving the little ones excited for adventure - and long days out enjoying the sunny weather. The idea of long weeks spend lounging in the sunshine might sound appealing, but for many people the warmer months present a far larger challenge: just how do you keep the kids entertained for six weeks straight?
If you’ve been left scratching your head for ways to entertain the kids this summer, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re simply looking for a walk to tire out a few sets of little legs, or a day of fun for the whole family, there’s sure to be something for everyone - and every budget - on our list.
5. Leeds Jurassic Trail
For something a little different this holiday, why not take part in a dinosaur hunt through Leeds city centre? Running until September, this free event challenges families to hunt down 13 animatronic dinosaurs across the city centre. Prizes are available for the best photographs. Download the map or app for free, and get hunting!
6. RSPB Fairburn Ings
It might have felt all too easy to disconnect from nature over the last year, so why not rekindle your love for the great outdoors? Fairburn Ings’ Discovery Trail is the perfect spot to take a relaxed walk and enjoy a beautiful landscape, while keeping an eye out for birds, bugs and much more. Entry to the park is free, with a £4 parking charge if travelling by car.
7. Hemsworth Waterpark
Fancy a day at the beach, without the long trip? Look no further than Hemsworth Waterpark, which promises a stunning waterfront experience, sandy beaches and open water. The park’s brand new Playworld adventure playground is also expected to open this weekend, with a tower slide, climbing frames and toddler sandpit area.
8. Thornes Park
This huge park is located in the centre of Wakefield, and has something for everyone. Take a stroll through the woodland, cycle through to the neighbouring Clarence and Holmfield Parks, or try some stunts on the park’s ever-popular play area. For something a little calmer, pop around to the park’s Secret Gardens, to enjoy an ice-cream in the sun.
