Remote learning, being stuck inside and missing friends and family are just some of the tough things that children have had to deal with over the last year and they ALL deserve recognition for being, well, simply amazing!
We asked parents to nominate their super stars and tell us how they have made the most of a bad lockdown situation. Our city really does have truly fantastic children!
9. Imogen
Sarah Padden said: "This is my daughter Imogen , she is 10 years old .She was in year 5 when we went into first lock down , she missed so many moments at school . Now in year 6 and missing so many more . Then she lost her grandad suddenly in lock down 1, he was her best friend she was so brave and helped me nurse him at home , he had a short battle with cancer . She never moaned and was the perfect leg massager so he said. And now even though I work , she gets up every morning and smiles and just gets on with the day. She is the sunshine in our lives and I just wish I had her sparkle . She makes people smile which is very hard these days."
10. Poppy
Emily Wilkinson - Adcock said: "I think my daughter, Poppy Adcock who is 6 years old, deserves to be a lockdown star! She tries so hard at everything she does. She was awarded online learner of the week from her school teacher because she always gives 110% at her work, every single day and completes every task. She has worked her socks off to understand her maths and even decided to use shreddies to learn her division. She has continued to do her dancing via zoom and always puts her heart and soul into her ballet, tap and gymnastics. She recently passed a dance exam and was highly commended with her scores. She is always willing to help me around the house and with her little brother Hugo, she reads to him and helps to clean up after him. She is a superstar and I couldn't be prouder of her!"
11. Elliott and Lily-Mae
Katie West said: "This is Elliott, 9 and Lily-Mae, 5. These two have been in school throughout lock down and I couldn’t be prouder. They have helped a lady that lives on our street and drawn her pictures and used there own money to buy Xmas presents etc. They have also collected for the hospital. They have found it tough not seeing friends and family. But still keep trying so hard."
12. Jessica
Lyndsey Jayne Adams said: "This is my 10 year old Jessica. She is an absolute trooper! I am so proud of her each and everyday! She turned 10 in the first lockdown and has never once complained about how things have changed and has smiled her way through it all! She just gets on with her own work and then rolls her sleeves up and helps her 5 year old twin sisters get theirs done while I have to work! She suffers with obstructive sleep apnea so barely gets a full nights sleep and has been in so much pain waiting for her tonsils out for 18 months now but still always has a smile! All through last year she raised money for our friends little boy with Neuroblastoma and came up with some great ideas that helped us reach his target of £230,000! She is now helping raise money for Henry the Brave another little boy with the same condition!"
