Remote learning, being stuck inside and missing friends and family are just some of the tough things that children have had to deal with over the last year and they ALL deserve recognition for being, well, simply amazing!
We asked parents to nominate their super stars and tell us how they have made the most of a bad lockdown situation. Our city really does have truly fantastic children!
5. Dexter
Lauren Louise Littlewood said: "We're so proud of Dexter, aged 8, who has started doing cooking videos for Blacker Hall Farm!."
6. Isla
Rachel Greenwood said: "This is our daughter Isla, 7. She was diagnosed with a relapsed wilms tumour in June 2020. Through lockdown she has spent long periods in hospital with only one parent allowed and no visiting. She has had 6 cycles of chemotherapy and 30 doses of radiotherapy in the last few months. She has also needed to go to theatre various times and continued to access her home learning. Isla is enjoying doing all her online lessons and seeing her school friends virtually! We are very proud of Isla and all her friends who are having treatment. She is also the best big sister to Max."
7. Aidan
Leanne Tyers said; "My son Aidan Tyers, age 10, had a lockdown birthday and hit double figures. He's not moaned once and gets on with his school work. I know he’s missing his friends he’s a social butterfly but obviously lockdown prevents that."
8. Emelia and Sebastian
Hazel Richards said: "Emelia, 6, and Sebastian, 5. Me and my husband are both NHS nurses so these 2 have been in school all the way through lockdown including the Easter and May holidays last year to allow us to support the hospital through the busiest times. We also moved house last June which resulted in moving schools so they are also in a new area with new school friends and new neighbours that they've not being allowed to get to know as much as they usually would. Not seeing friends and family has been so hard for them but they are resilient little humans and we are so proud of them for how they have dealt with everything."
