Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Wakefield woman gives back to charity with Wear It Pink 5K walk six years on from diagnosis
A woman from Thornes in Wakefield is giving back to charity six years on from her diagnosis with a sponsored 5K group walk as part of Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink campaign.
Sarah Davies, from Thornes in Wakefield, will complete the 5K route from the Queens Arms pub in Thornes on Saturday, October 19 with a group of family, friends and colleagues all wearing pink to raise awareness of the charity.
Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 at age 31, and said she wanted to give back to charity after previously either feeling too unwell or lacking the confidence to do so.
Sarah said: “It’s something I have wanted to do for quite a long time. I have either not been well enough or not been able to have the confidence to do it really.”

Despite being helped by a range of charities during her illness, Sarah said she chose to raise money for Breast Cancer Now because of its focus on supporting people in the time following on from their illness – something which she said many people do not understand.
“It’s supporting women who have been through breast cancer that need ongoing support.
“One thing that a lot of people don’t seem to understand is the aftermath – it does affect people in such a big way,” Sarah added.
Sarah lives in Thornes with her eight-year-old son Joseph and their dog, Gus, who will also take part in the walk.
The fundraising page for the group – called the Shaky Wakey Tribe – can be found here.
