Chris Kamara opens refurbished Trinity Medical Centre following £3m investment
One of Wakefield’s largest GP practices has officially opened its transformed medical centre following a major £3 million refurbishment.
Former footballer, broadcaster and charity campaigner Chris Kamara MBE joined staff, patients, healthcare partners and community stakeholders at Trinity Medical Centre today (October 28) to mark the completion of the redevelopment and officially declare the building open.
The event celebrated the successful transformation of the practice’s Thornhill Street site, and was delivered through a partnership between Trinity Medical Centre, Primary Health Properties (PHP), Probus Construction and NHS partners.
Serving more than 27,000 patients across its Thornhill Street and Sandal sites, Trinity Medical Centre is one of the largest GP practices in the Wakefield district.

Work began to redevelop the building in February 2025 but initial plans to upgrade the centre date back ten years.
The vast refurbishment has been designed to increase its healthcare capacity and improve access to services for thousands of local patients.
Speaking at the opening, Chris Kamara MBE said: "It’s an absolute honour to open this facility.
"To think what this place used to be like to what it is now – it’s a massive change!

"Like everything in Wakefield it’s getting better and better!”
The refurbished centre features an extra 13 consultation rooms, a minor procedures suite and a new pharmacy unit on the outside of the building.
Sarah Rigg, business manager at Trinity Medical Centre, said: "Today marks an important milestone for our practice, our staff and the communities we serve. This investment has given us a modern, welcoming healthcare environment and significantly increased our capacity to provide care for patients across Wakefield.
"We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and grateful to everyone who supported the project.”
