Rescue dog Kumar is all patched up and ready to find a new home

A 10-year-old Akita that came into the care of Dogs Trust’s Rehoming Centre after his owner sadly passed away, has been given a clean bill of health after a worrying looking growth on his paw was thankfully found to be benign.
The team are hoping Kumar will find a new home quickly as he is an older gentleman and has spent most of his life in a family home, so he has been struggling to adjust to kennel life. The team are hoping Kumar will find a new home quickly as he is an older gentleman and has spent most of his life in a family home, so he has been struggling to adjust to kennel life.

The growth was removed, and Kumar is now recovering and ready to find his forever family.

Emma Cooper, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust in Leeds, said: “Kumar has a fantastic nature, and he is one of the most affectionate dogs you could ever meet. He likes to be by your side and is content taking life at a slower pace, now that he is entering his senior years.

“Kumar has arthritis in his legs so finding him a home with few stairs where he will be able to spend his retirement years in comfort is essential. While his days of long walks might be a thing of the past, Kumar still has a playful side, loves a game of tug and war and will enjoy having a potter around the garden.

“We would love to hear from potential owners who can offer Kumar a home where he won’t be left on his own and will have space to wander around and explore.

"A household where someone will be around most of the day is very important as Kumar does get very attached to people.

“He does like other dogs but due to his age and arthritis, it would be more beneficial for him to live in a home with no other pets. Kumar is an extremely loveable dog and has been described by canine carers at the rehoming centre as a ‘big teddy bear’ in nature.”

As Kumar is currently recovering from an operation to remove the growth from his paw, potential owners should be willing to continue to support this recovery, however further information and guidance can be provided by the Leeds team.
