Capri, in Horbury Bridge, had asked Wakefield Council for permission to play films from its premises.

The diner, located on Bridge Road, wanted a licence allowing them to operate a cinema between 11am and midnight from Monday to Saturday and 11am to 11.30pm on Sundays.

Only one member of the public objected to the application, but the council said it turned down the request because of noise complaints made by Capri's neighbours previously.

The restaurant has been contacted for comment but has yet to respond.

Anthony Sadler, the council's service director for communities said: "The application was refused following previous concerns around noise nuisance from the premises by local residents.

"The proposed cinema would operate in an outdoor area within the car park of the restaurant.

"Considering that complaints have been received regarding noise from within the building, we believe that the potential for noise nuisance cannot be ignored when entertainment is held outdoors."

Before Christmas, Capri's managers applied for a licence to extend their alcohol and music licences until midnight between Mondays and Saturdays.

However, their objections were later withdrawn and a public hearing to decide the issue was cancelled as a result.
