A driver who mounted a kerb before striking and injuring two men and killing a dog in a revenge attack in South Kirkby has been jailed

Leeds Crown Court heard David Moores used the Ford Mondeo he was driving as a weapon to target the two men on West Street on August 16 2023.

Prosecutor Henry Fernandez said Moores, 35, was seeking revenge after an earlier incident when one of the men went to a woman’s home, adding: "Whilst there it is said he tried to steal drugs and pushed her child into a radiator."

The woman contacted Moores after spotting the men in South Kirkby.

Mr Fernandez said: "He drove that vehicle at speed towards both men. It mounted the kerb and collided with both individuals."

The man - who the court heard had previously been to the woman's house - was hit in the right leg and knocked from the electric bicycle he was on.

He fell to the pavement and suffered a broken toe and cuts and bruises to his arms.

The car then struck the other man who was walking his dog. The dog was killed instantly.

The man suffered fractured ribs, a broken left shoulder and two breaks in his left arm.

The court heard both his lungs collapsed. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Moores, of Frederick Street, Rotherham, has eight previous convictions for nine offences.

Moores admitted attempted grievous bodily harm and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

In March 2022 he was handed a seven month prison sentence suspended for two years for an October 2020 offence of theft of a motor vehicle.

He committed the August 16 2023 offences during then term of that order.

Glenn Parsons, mitigating, said since the incident Moores "has been largely out of trouble."

Judge Ray Singh jailed Moores for three-years-and-eight months and banned him from driving for two years with a 22-month extension.
