Pupils help plant hundreds of trees at Hemsworth climate event

Students from Outwood Academy Hemsworth were among those invited to take part in the Woodland Trust’s ‘Big Climate Fightback’, which encourages the public to help plant hundreds of thousands of trees to help tackle climate change.

Over the course of two days 40 pupils helped to plant 1,650 trees at Vale Head Park, which will now form part of the New North Forest.

Principal Toby Rutter said: “We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this great occasion, and to be playing a part in contributing to the sustainability of the local community.

“At Outwood, we believe in playing a leading role in the communities we are privileged to serve and this event is an example of this.

“We look forward to continuing to play our part and working closely with the Woodland Trust and the ‘Big Climate Fightback’.”
