Ladies’ night to raise cash for surgeons who saved brave tot’s life

Little Blake, of Fryston, was born with anal rectal malformation – a rare condition which obstructs the digestive system – in January.

Surgeons at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) carried out emergency surgery when he was just two days old to prevent him from being poisoned.

The family decided to help raise money for the hospital and is holding a ladies’ night at Fryston Welfare Club on Saturday.

Blake’s mum Keira Dawson, 23, said: “Nothing will ever repay them for what they did – they saved Blake’s life and we’ll be forever grateful.

“We just want to raise as much money as we can and say a big thank you to everyone who helped.”

The event – which will feature topless waiters including former Castleford Tigers star Richard Owen – is already sold out and £2,500 has been raised just from ticket sales.

Miss Dawson added: “We’ve sold all the tickets but we’re having a raffle on the night so hope to raise even more money.”

Blake was fitted with a colostomy bag by surgeons on the neonatal unit at LGI.

The youngster had it removed in an operation last month, where surgeons reconstructed his digestive system.

He is now back at home with his mum, dad Liam Watts, 24, and older brother Tommy-Lee, three.

Miss Dawson, of Levin Close, said: “Blake is doing fine now. At the start it was very hard but we’ve all got each other and we get through it.

“It has been the most stressful nine-and-a-half months of our lives because we didn’t know if he was going to be okay.”
