Travel column with Katie Butler of Total Travel. Last chance to win £250 off your next Jet2holiday
Holiday season is well and truly upon us and I can’t believe we are almost in June already. How did that happen? It only feels like yesterday we were talking about Christmas markets and winter sun escapes.
So far, and despite some concerning national headlines around fuel shortages and potential disruption to flights, thankfully it has been very much business as usual for our customers. We are pleased to say that neither we nor our customers have experienced any flight cancellations linked to fuel supply issues, which will certainly come as reassuring news to anyone preparing to travel over the coming weeks.

Once again, we recently caught up with ABTA and, as proud ABTA members ourselves, we wanted to share some of their top tips for anyone considering a holiday in 2026:
One of the biggest pieces of advice is to book through a travel agent or tour operator. While many people assume booking independently online is always cheaper, that is often not the case. More importantly you are assured that your holiday is financially protected.
ABTA also continues to encourage customers to consider package holidays wherever possible. Booking a package holiday not only saves time, but can often work out cheaper than booking flights, accommodation and transfers separately. Importantly, package holidays also provide valuable financial protection under the Package Travel Regulations, offering additional peace of mind should anything unexpected happen before or during your trip.
Another key tip is to remain flexible when choosing your destination. Having an open mind can often lead to discovering somewhere new while also saving money. A different resort, region or even country may offer exactly the type of holiday you are looking for.
All-inclusive holidays also continue to grow in popularity, particularly with families and those looking to budget carefully. Paying upfront for flights, accommodation, meals, drinks and sometimes even activities allows travellers to relax knowing most costs are already covered before they arrive.
An overview of last week: 38 per cent of our new bookings last week were for holidays travelling within the next 12 weeks. It is clear the “look, book and pack” trend remains strong, with many customers still happy to wait for the right deal or simply book closer to departure once plans become clearer.
June 2026 proved to be the most popular departure month, accounting for 15 per cent of all new bookings made last week.
The most popular places last week were cruises sailing from Southampton for those customers wanting a stress-free holiday without the added pressure of airports and baggage restrictions. Majorca continues to be a firm favourite and Tenerife once again remains one of the top choices for year-round sunshine and great value all-inclusive breaks.
