Allerton Bywater collision: Police appeal after driver critically injured

Emergency services were called at around 9.45pm last night (Wednesday, October 14), after a red Toyota BZ4X left the carriageway on Station Road.

The vehicle came to rest in a wooded area between the junctions of Station Terrace and Back Lane.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Initial enquiries suggest the driver may have suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel.

A passenger in the Toyota was also taken to hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicle in the moments leading up to it, to come forward.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident or the events beforehand on dashcam or CCTV.

Anyone with potentially relevant footage is asked to check their recordings and contact the Roads Policing Unit.

Information can be provided via West Yorkshire Police Live Chat or by calling 101.
