Two Wakefield district chip shops secure national accreditation

Two fish and chip shops in the Wakefield district have been recognised for their food quality, hygiene standards and staff skills.

Barracuda Fisheries on Horbury Road in Ossett and Kingfisher Fish & Chip Restaurant, on Denby Dale Road, in Wakefield have both achieved the NFFF Quality Accreditation, run by the National Federation of Fish Friers.

The scheme involves a virtual inspection by an NFFF-approved assessor, covering shop presentation, hygiene and cleanliness, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills, and the quality of the cooked food.

Both businesses said the recognition was a credit to their staff and thanked customers for their support.

In statements supplied with their announcements, both shops said: “We are delighted to have earned our place in the scheme once again.

"Being recognised as one of the UK’s top fish and chip shops by the NFFF is a tremendous honour. This award is a credit to our hardworking staff, and I would like to offer my sincere thanks for their continued efforts in maintaining our excellent reputation.

“I would also like to thank all our customers, both new and longstanding, for their support and encouragement. Their loyalty motivates us to maintain the high standards that have now been recognised with this accreditation.”

NFFF president Andrew Crook said: “The NFFF Quality Accreditation scheme is extremely comprehensive. Food safety is a key area we examine, alongside other essential aspects of a business – from preparation and cooking equipment to paperwork management and fish traceability.”

The accreditation is valid for one year.
