Seven-year-old Ella helps bring Christmas sparkle to hospice appeal
A seven-year-old girl who has dedicated herself to helping children visiting their loved ones in hospice care is helping bring a little extra Christmas magic to this year’s Light up a Life appeal.
Ella Wilson has donated more than 100 activity packs to local hospice families since seeing the care her great-grandad, Derek, received at The Prince of Wales Hospice.
Determined to give something back, Ella began making activity kits for children visiting the hospice.
The packs are designed to keep children busy, encourage creativity and give them the chance to make special keepsakes while spending time with loved ones.

Now, as Christmas approaches, Ella is continuing her fundraising by creating festive activity kits and a special handcrafted Christmas bauble for supporters of the Hospice’s Light up a Life appeal.
Ella’s mum, Alison, said her daughter’s fundraising had become a special way for the family to remember Derek.
“My Grandad was always thinking of other people and would help anyone he could. He’d be so proud of Ella and the kindness she’s shown.
“What started as a small idea has grown into something that is helping other families, and that’s a lovely way for us to remember him.”
As part of this year’s appeal, anyone who donates £15 or more will receive one of Ella’s handmade Christmas baubles, while stocks last.
The decoration can be hung at home as a lasting reminder of someone special during the festive season.
The Prince of Wales Hospice’s Light up a Life appeal is open to everyone, whether or not they have a personal connection to the hospice.
Laura Hill, Senior Relationships Fundraiser, said: “Light up a Life is open to everyone, whether or not they have a connection to the hospice.
“By dedicating a light in memory of someone special, people can celebrate their life while helping local patients and families receive the care and support they need.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Ella for helping make this year’s appeal so special.”
The hospice will also hold remembrance events throughout December.
The events will be held at:
All Saints Church, Featherstone – Tuesday, December 15
Holy Cross Church, Airedale – Thursday, December 17
Pontefract Racecourse – Saturday, December 19
